INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM.
DEPARTURE FOR SYDNEY. GAME IN THE DOMINION. The Indian Army hockey team left by the Aorangi for Sydney yesterday after a successful tour of New Zealand. A number of Auckland hockey enthusiasts were on the wharf and cheers were exchanged as the vessel drew away. The team will play several matches in Australia before finally embarking for India. Interviewed before his departure, Captain' Cowan, manager of the team, forecasted a rapid improvement in the standard of New Zealand hockey. In pointing out that the general standard of the gairie in the Dominion at present was not comparable with the class ot hockey played m India and Great Britain, ljo traced the cause to the poorly-prepared grounds. In- the larger centres where better grounds were ,in use thero was a noticeable improvement iir, the standard.
Captain Cowan expressed appreciation of the hospitality that had always been readily, shown to the team during its tour.
