HENDERSON DISTRICT.
PROPOSED NEW TOWN HALL. QUESTION OF FIRE BRIGADE. The Henderson Town Board met on Saturday. The chairman, Mr. B. Hart, presided. The Railway Department wrote stating that the application for certain trains to stop at Sturges Road would be considered. A Jetter from the State Advances Office stated that the application for a loan of £5500 for the erection of a new town hall was under consideration. The board would be advised when the Order-in-Council had been gazetted. The chairman reported that the test case brought by the board to enforce the by-law requiring the removal of verandah posts in Station Road had resulted in a decision in favour of" the board. It was decided that one month's notice be given to the owners of posts in a similar position to have them removed. The formation of a fi&s brigade was discussed, and it was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of Mr. B. T. Murray and the board's foreman, Mr. G. Y. Canton. The town desk, Mr. E. Greenslade, reported that for the six months ended June .30 16 building permits had been granted. Five of these were for new dwellings, one for a new shop and. ten for alterations and additions, the total value being £4158. Ihe installation of electric light had given much satisfaction, especially at the railway station and on Station Road. The lighting of side roads was being proceeded with. ,
