NOTES FROM WELLINGTON.

mCCARTON CANDIDATES. [by telegraph.—own. correspondent.] . WELLINGTON, Monday. Indian Sage lias done well since racing at the Trentham meeting. He can muster up a good burst of speed and this should help him to gain a good position early in the Winter Cup at the Canterbury meeting. He finished so well at Trentham that his chance at Riccarton has to be recog nised. S. Reid will send him south with H. B. Lorigan. as he has his hands too full with Grand Knight and company. Grand Knight looits in first-class °™ e |- Jemidar is doing useful work. The Mar tian gelding is a very nattv type, but a little on the small side. He is ft true Martian, however, and should be able to gallop fast. Black Cat and All Bright, in the same stable, are healthy and well. Dubious and Master Peter will not Of schooled again until they go to Riccarton on July 28. F. Corlett has joined the stable of J. Gage Williams at Trentham. Jubilance has still a very bad-looking hock, but she is as sound as a bell on it. She gallops well and is to bo raced at the Chrislchurch Hunt meeting P n ?,\ \° being run in the Winter Cup. She will be ridden by L A. Pine in the South. Gauntlet is apparently a natural jumper, judging by the way he negotiated three fences in company with Glument on Saturday morning at Trentham. He may be started in a hurdle race in the early spring, but it is more likely that he will be kept to racing on the flat for another season. He 13 in great order and should be well forward for early spring racing. Hokioi was purchased at the Wellington meeting by the Trentham trainer, D. McAuley. Hokioi was intended for Riccnrl ton. but apparently his new owner missed the nominations. Perhaps it is as well tor Hokioi has an injured hind leg in addition to having: lightened up. . . P. Mcßrearty will ride Dubious in the Grand National Hurdles nnd_ probably Ticerland in the Steeplechase. Butler will ride Dubious ir> the Jumpers' Flat. _ Comical was the last of the visitors at Trentham and he left on Friday night. There ia nothing the matter with his condition now and given a fair amount of schooling at Riccarton ha promises to Le a very haid horse to beat. Negotiations are in progress for the Masterton Racing Club to hold its spring meeting at Trentnam. It is proposed that the fixture be a two-day one to be held on the Friday and Saturdav following the spring meeting at Trentham. October 29 and 30. The club contemplates improvements to its course and it is stated that the course will not be fit to be raced on in October. So far as trainers and horse owners _ are concerned the change will _be appreciated arid the days will fit in quite well between thei Wellington meeting and the Cup meetins; at Riccarton. , , The Manawatu Hunt Club has come to ari arrangement with the Manawatu Racing' Club to hold its meeting at Awapuni for the next five years.
