HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.
LAKE COLERIDGE SUPPLY. SUCCESS OF NEW GENERATOR. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. X CHRISTCHURCH,, Sunday. Anxiety regarding the supply of power for Canterbury from Lake Coleridge, has been allayed as the result of the successful testing of No. 7 generating set, the capacity of which is 7500 kilowatts.' The new generator was synchronised at 3.15 p.m. on Friday, and carried about 500 kilowatts of the Cnristchurch load. Yesterday the new set carried approximately 2000 kilowatts,of the city load between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Some small adjustments to the governor will require to be made before the- set can be put into regular service. These will be completed by the middle of the week. The level of the water in the old surge chamber at the lake has been raised automatically increasing the generating capacity of the. 12,000 kilowatt set which had been limited by the pressure available from No., 1 tunnel., The No. 7 generator at Lake Coleridge is the largest individual set operating in the Dominion at present. OUEEEKT FROM EOEAHORA NEW TRANSMISSION LINE. [BY TELEGRAPH.-—OWN COHtIESPONDENT.] " ; HAMILTON. Saturday. Electric ■ current will be available from to-morrow over the 110,000-volt transmission line recently , erected between Arapuni afld Hamilton, the power being generated at Horahora. The section-.is one of the links in the main transmission lines which .will ultimately connect' Arapuni with Auckland. ■ " The Public Works Department warns settlers in the Matangi, Bruntwood, Fencourt and'Karapiro districts'to be particularly, careful on account of the new' line.
