WHANGAREI NOTES.
IMPROVEMENT OF STREETS. BOROUGH COUNCIL'S DECISION. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] "WHANGAREI, Tuesday. The Whangarei County Council to-day when considering what roads should be declared as county main roads decided against the Maungakaramea-Tauraroa Railway Station Road in favour of a remaining section of the MaungakarameaWhangarei route. The Whangarei Borough Council has pledged itself to a scheme of reconstruction of the main thoroughfare, Cameron Street, and also of Dent and Hunt Streets, at alternative costs of £IO,BOO or £7400. Dr. H. Chesson, medical officer of health for North Auckland, has demanded that the Whangarei Borough Council should call upon users of Kensington Park to assist within 28 days in providing adequate sanitary conveniences, otherwise the park, the principal" football ground, is to be closed for any gathering. This serious interruption to sport is to be avoided if possible by getting the several parties, including the Whangarei Racing Club, the Northland Trotting Club, the Agricultural and Pastoral Society, and the Rugby Union to agree to contribute so that the work can be put in hand. The Borough Council has agreed to allow the Whangarei School Committee to draw water from the municipal supply for swimming baths at tho school and also to discharge the water into the sewers.
