TOURIST LEAGUE'S WORK. PLEA FOR A HIGH SCHOOL. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA, Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Tauranga Tourist and Traffic League was held last night. The report made mention of sea fishing and the help given by the Marine Department. Good use was made of the local motor camping sites on the domain and Fifth Avenue and it is anticipated that these will continue to grow in popularity. The improvement of the Kaimai Road is appreciated and the completion of the permanent work, on this road would be a great factor in encouraging motorists to travel by this route. The balance sheet disclosed a credit balance of £27. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Major A. J. Mirrielees; vice-presidents, Messrs. B. P. Andrews and S. O. Guinness ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. Munro; committee, Messrs. P. F. Carter, R. Mann, B. C. Rottins, F. W. Meikle and J. C. Adams; auditor, Mr. J. A. Guinness. The question of issuing a new booklet was discussed and a committee was appointed to make arrangements for its publication. v The following teams will represent the Tauranga Hockey Association at tournaments to be held in Auckland:—Ladies: Misses B. Kennedy, E. Burke, H. Rolfe, D. McNamara, E. Tollemacbe, D. Chadban, E. Hunter, P. Cramer-Roberts, G. Merrimar, J. Randle, K. Kennedy, F. Kennedy, M. Brewer and M. Pearson. Men's Team: L. Green, B. Lowrie, P. Allely, F. Playfair, J. McCaldon, M. Foreman, L. Simmonds, W. Teasey, A. Ferguson, H. Cambie, T. Keenan, D. Cameron, L. Hammond and F. Lorrigan. Mr. H. A. Highet, who has been a member of the local staff of the Public Works Department for the past four years has been transferred to the Hawke's Bay district. During his stay in Tauranga Mr. Highet has taken a very keen interest in yachting affairs. He is the designer of the Tauranga seven footers, which have proved so popular with the boys and now enjoy a Dominion reputation. Mi'. Highet is at present rearcommodore of the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club. Members of the club assembled to bid him farewell and he was presented with a set of pipes from the senior members of the club and with an enlarged photograph of the seven footers from the junior members.
The Te Puke representative Rugby team will plav the Tauranga representatives at Tauranga on June 19.
A deputation from the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce comprising Messrs. B. P. Andrew's, B. C. Robbins, and' F. N. Christian, journeyed to Matamata yesterday and waited on the Hon- R. A. Wright, Minister of Education', regarding the establishment of a high school proper. The deputation was accompanied bv Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P. The members of the deputation placed the claims of Tauranga for a high school before the Minister and were strongly supported by Mr. Macmillan who stressed the fact that the school had been promised for a long time. The Minister in reply stated that a very good case had been made out and on his return to Wellington he would have the matter looked into.
In the play off for the four-hall-best-hall golf bogey competition R. P, Baigent and Goulding (two tip) beat Pott and Berrill (all square) after a close game.
