CONDUCT OF AN HOTEL.
NEW LICENSE REFUSED. DECISION AT WANGANUI. POLICE OBJECTION UPHELD. [by telegbaph.—-own correspondent.] WANGANUI. Tuesday. The Wanganui Licensing Bench to-day refused a renewal of the license of the Commercial Hotel to which objection had been taken by the police. The objection was that the .house was conducted !n an improper mariner and drunkenness was permitted in it; that during part of February, 1926, and from about April 26 to May 12 a man lodged at the Commercial Hotel and handed over laigo sums of money to the licensee in advance for liquor and lodgings to be supplied; that he. received lodgings and was. supplied with intoxicating liquor on the premises and was frequently in a state of intoxication and drunkenness.
• In summarising the facts that wereheld to be proved the Bench said that on points where there was conflict of evidence between the applicant and the police the Bench accepted the evidence of Sergeant Sivyer and Constable Granger. Application for a renewal of the license was therefore refused and costs £4 12s wero awarded on the application of the police.
