One manager stated that his firm sold fifty "bicycles before half-past nine in the morning. There was also a demand for oil stoves and camp beds. "We have been overwhelmed with orders for new bicycles," said the manager of a retail branch of a prominent firm of manufacturers.

An official at another house said .that an unusually large number of wireless sets had been sold.
