NORTH OF ENGLAND TEAM. OPENING STAGES OF PLAY. {Received 1.30 a.m.) B enter, LONDON. June 2. The Australian cricketers commenced & match against North of England this morning at Birmingham. Heavy rain had fallen in the night and the weather to-day was dull. The wicket, however, had been fully protected. Can* von the toss and North of England batted. Sutcliffe and Holmes opened the innings to the bowling of Gregory and Ryder. Only four overs had been sent down when it commenced to rain again and the light was very poor. The score at this stage was 11 for no wickets (Sutcliffe 3, Holmes 8). Collins, Ellis, Grimmett, Everett and Hendry are standing out of the Australian team.
