ALLEGED RUM-RUNNING
NAVAL AVIATOR CHARGED. SUGGESTED SMUGGLING RING. SAN FRANCISCO, May 25. Commander James Hale Strong, the naval aviator, who flew the PBI in the attempted flight from San Francisco to Honolulu last year, has been charged by the Federal Government with being a member of the- big liquor-smuggling ring. After that unsuccessful flight Strong was stationed at Seattle as inspector of an aeroplane factory, and it is said that he put m his leisure time flying 60 miles to the Canadian border and returning with cargoes of liquor. He is alleged to have handled nearly £IOO,OOO in ssx months.
