FAREWELL AT THAMES. [BY TJsXEGEA.PH. —-OWN CORKKSPONDSIiT. J THAMES, Monday, Mr. H. «X. G. McElroy, who leaves Thames for Auckland after nine years' residence as clerk to the Thames County Council, was tendered a complimentary dinner by. local body members, officers and friends on Saturday night. Mr. E. Walton,, who presided, said Mr. McElroy had earned a very high place in the regard and esteem of the community. Mr. Adam Wilson, manager of the Bank of New Zealand also paid a tribute to the good service rendered by the guest of the evening. Mr. McElroy, in reply referred to the progress of Thames. He pleaded for a greater degree of tolerance and the shunning of parochialism in local body politics. Rather should they give way. to the "other fellow" at times and not hesiitate to lav their cards on the table. Thus wotifd they be better able to pull together for the benefit of the whole district.
