SUBURBAN DRAINAGE.
MEOLA CREEK SCHEME. NEED FOR IMPROVEMENTS. A report regarding the alterations to Meola Creole, Mount Albert, required for drainage purposes, was submitted to the Mount Eden Borough Council by the borough engineer last evening. The report stated that work of some considerable magnitude was required before the channel would satisfactorily discharge the great volume of water which is essential for the efficient working of the combined drainage scheme recently reported upon by Mr. 11. 11. Watkins, engineer of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board. The creek followed a meandering course over a length of about one and n-half miles through Mount Albert borough, its upper end starting at Kitchener Road, stated the report, and the proposed improvement must extend from this point to the vicinity of First Avenue iri the Point Chevalier district. The work' would consist of the duplication of culverts under Alberton Road, New North Road. Asquith Avenue and the Kaipara Railway, together with rock excavation in widening and straightening of the channel. Drawings were not available and the expenditure could only be approximated, but probably Mr. Watkins' estimate of £I7XOO would not be exceeded.
Subject to suitable arrangements being made, the engineer expressed the opinion that the work should be carried out by the Auckland 1 U'amage Board, particularly as Iho board would control and maintain it. The work was urgently required and the engineer advised that action should be taken.
If was decided to refer the matter to the Works Committee.
