PRESENTATIONS.

Presentations were marie on Saturday on behalf of the staff of the Public Works Department- and ou behalf of a number of local bodies to Mr.. S. J. Harding, assistant-engineer of the Public Works Department in the Auckland district, who is retiring 011 superannuation. Mr. L. B. Campbell, district engineer, paid a tribute, to Mr. Harding's services during bis long association with the department- and extended to him good wishes for the future. Mr. Harding- was presented with a cheque and Mrs. Harding with a bouquet on behalf o! the staff. On behalf of the local bodies Mr. Harding was given a leather suitcase. In returning thanks Mr. Harding sa'.d he had been associated with the department 30 years ago. when the office was in the Supreme Court building and the staff consisted of about six persons. Letters expressing appreciation of Mr. Harding s services were received from Air. P. \\. Furkert. engineer in-chief. Mr. 0. <T. McKetuie, acting-engineer-in-chief, Mr. G. L. Cook, late district enginecr-in-chargo of the North Island Main Trunk district, and Mr. P. Keller, district engineer at Taumarunui. Opportunity was taken by members of the Whangarei County Council last- Friday to present Mr. W. Jones. M.P., who has been a member for 9J, years and chairman for the last 64 years, with a suitcase, on the occasion of his severing his connection with the council. Mr. L. Webb made the presentation and he and other members eulogised Mr. Jones for the services rendered by him to the district and the faithful manner in which he had managed the affairs of the council. On behalf of the staff Mr. V\. 11. Gillespie, county inspector, presented Mr. Jones with a set of razors.
