MAORI CHURCH HUT.

A FEAST FOR SIX HUNDRED. GATHERING AT TOKOMARU BAY. [by telegn.\ nr.—own roitresponpent. ] OISBORXE, Saturday. There is a large gathering of Maoris at Tokomaru Bay holding a hni in an endeavour to raise funds for church purposes. The rnarae grounds are opposite this church and. as in the case of the large hni held recently at Tikitiki, everything possible seems to have been done in order to prevent disease. Two large tents have been erected on the grounds. One is used as a wharepuni, or sleeping house, ami the other has been fitted up as an excellent dining-iiall capable of accommodating nearly 150 persons at each sitting. Electricity and water have, been laid on. Dozens of porkers, scores of fowl and a big cartload of kumeras have been requisitioned to feed the gathering, as well as ample supplies of fruit, bread, tea and the like. Everything in connection with the food is scrupulously clean. A sumptuous bakari was provided yesterday. Many of the pakeha residents of the district received invitations to attend this function and it is estimated that, over 600 people partook of the feast. The Hon. A. T. Ngata addressed the gathering.
