Some months ago the cmplovers agreed to advance the, rates of liav of tho wntersirlo workers by lid an hour, on condition that they should work on Saturday afternoons. Tho matter was referred to a ballot of tho waterside unions throughout New Zealand and all agreed to accept tlyo condition with the exception of that at Lyttelton. The result was- that the increase was not paid to tho Lyttelton waterside workers and since then there have been several stoppages of work at that port. Just recently. the. matter reached a head and it was decided to hold a conference in Wellington. Proposals were submitted by representatives of tho men, but there is no information yet as to tho result.
