DISFIGURING SIGNS.
THE NORTHERN HIGHWAYS. UNITED STAND SUGGESTED. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WHANGAREI. Wednesday. Disfigurement of roads throughout the North by advertising signs was mentioned by Mr. J. S. Lane, chairman of the Whangaroa County Council, at ti meeting of the Highways Council. Ho asked the council to take steps to prohibit, the erection of such signs. Ho considered that tko Main Highways Board should put a stop to the practice on main roads and should approach local bodies to place a similar embargo in regard to the other roads. Mr. Rodney Coates, chairms>n of the Otamatea County Council, move:! that the Highways Board bo asked to circularise local bodies to take a stand against the practice. This was approved,
