WELFARE OF CHILDREN.

Sir, —Having read a letter in last Thursday's Hebald re "Welfare of Children," I would tike to point out to ""Mother Also" that a number of "Old Maids" lost their Invers in the war. In a great 'many cases they would have mado excellent mothers. I notice it is always married women who have had charge ofv foster children. Why. deprive women, who are not mothers, from lavishing their mother love which has never found expression, on these children. I know lots of ojd maids who adore children, while on the other hand I know mothers who cannot, bo bothered "with them. Give the old maids a trial and see who. makes the best foster mother. - Old Maid.
