RUGBY IN SCHOOLS.
ASSISTANCE AT WANGANUI. A SUBSIDY FOR BALLS. [BY TELEGRAPH, —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WANGANUI. Wednesday. Several members of the Rugby Union are viewing with apprehension the steady growth of Association football in the Dominion. Jit a meeting of the metropolitan sub-union last night a request for playing balls for the primary schools was made, and during the discussion the headmaster of a primary school said Association balls were being practically forced upon the schools. The chairman, Mr. Weekes, said he realised the situation. He was jealous of the finances of tho union, but this was an exceptional case. In Wellington this season there woro 152 Association teams, whereas two years ago there were under 100. The progress of tho Association game was largely due to tho numbor of players arriving from England. Mr. Gumhley said it was tho bqast of tho Association code in Wanganui that within 10 years tho game would have a bigger hold locally than Rugby. Mr, L. Fromont said soccer was being introduced in the secondary schools. It was resolved to subsidise tho school footballs.
