LIGHT CRIMINAL CALENDAR.

COMMENT IN WELLINGTON. A pleasing .state of affairs as far as crime in Wellington-is concerned —and one that has not existed for at least 40 years —was shown at the opening of the criminal session of the Supreme Court on Tuesday, when Sir. Justice Reed congratulated the district upon the absence of crime—at least for the time being. "You.will be pleased to know, gentlemen," His Honor said, in addressing the grand' jury, '/that on this occasion your labours will be exceedingly light. There are but three cases altogether before the grand jury, and I am informed that a search of the records of the Court shows that such a condition has not existed for the last 40 years."
