IDEAL OF CHRISTIANITY.

PLEA FOR EVANGELISTS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN' CORRESPONDENTS.J CHEISTCHUBCH, Wednesday. A plea for evangelists and for a study of the troubles of the world by the men of the Church of England was made by the Bishop of Christchnrch, Dr. WestWatson, when he addressed the delegates to the annual conference of the society at a service in the Cathedral. When Christianity was first heard of it was looked to as a great ideal, said Dr. West-Watson. Then the world became tired, and the ' church became tired, everyone thinking that the things that were wrong in this world would be put right in the next. The church got tired of thinking for itself and lived in a world that was unreal. What was needed was bands of men trying to rethink the relationships of everything in life in the terms of the great ideal of the love of Christ, and then try and apply this to their fellow-beings. together as we are from the ends of the country there is sufficient to show that this society has not. come to the end of its usefulness," said the bishop. He added thaT. it only needed remodelling so that it would meet the needs of their fellow men.
