COLLISIONS IN HARBOUR.
INQUIRIES TO BE REOPENED. HEARING IN SUPREME COURT. Two marine inquiries into shipping mishaps in Auckland Harbour are to bo re opened, following instructions from the Minister of Marine. The matters will bo carried into the Supreme Court this week, and will be heard before Mr. Justice Stringer. One is (he case of the collision on August 5, 1925, between the ferry steamer Albatross and the ketch Scot, between the city and Northcote, in which the ketch was sunk. At the magisterial inquiry, now to be reviewed, it was decided that Captain Lynch, of the Albatross, committed an error of judgment in not porting his helm, and ho was ordered to pay the costs of the inquiry. The second case relates to the collision between the Union Steam "jimp Company's steamer Wainui and the fishing launch Iris Kilcen. near Rangitoto Beacon, on July 7, 1925. In that instance the nautical court held that the Iris Eileen failed to observe the regulation for the prevention of collisions at sea, and ordered the certificate of the captain of the Wainui to be returned. Mr. Meredith, crown solicitor, will appear for the. Marine Department, at the new inquiries. Mr. Richmond will appear for the owner of the Iris Eileen.
