April 20 The Daily Express says a great step to- j ward industrial peace is expected to be taken to-day when the coalmine owners meet the Trime Minister, Mr. Stanley Baldwin. I The paper says it is undeistood that as a result of powerful persuasion used at tho week-end owners will not insist upon district wages agreements instead of national agreements. This removes one of the main causes of the deadlock. Mr. Baldwin will probably summon the miners immediately to consider this important concession. The South Wales miners yesterday rejected the offer of the owners to convene a joint conference to discuss district settlements. A Brussels firm has notified the Cardiff Colliery Company fhat in the event of a strike it is prepared to supply a daily minimum of 10,000 tons of Belgian or German coal. WAGES OF ENGINEERS.
