FRANKLIN COUNTY ROADS.
GOOD PROGRESS WITH METAL.

The Franklin County Council met, Mr. H. Wilcox presiding. The county's representative 'on the District Highways Council, Mr. G. W. Hcalt, reported that the council had agreed to recommend that the Pukekohe-Waiuku and the Puko-kohe-Drury main roads be declared main highways. The Public Trust Office advised that it would lend the money required for the following roads:—Creamery Road, \yaiau Pa, Quinn's Road, Mauku, Hull's Hermitage Road, Kariotahi Road, Taurnngaruru Road and Geraghty's Road. The total amount would bo £7950, with interest at 6 per cent, and 1 per cent, sinking fund. It was resolved to convene a meeting of ratepayers at Arariniu to further consider the proposal for a special loan to extend the metalling on the main Arariniu Road. , , „ A deputation from the Opaheke-Drury-Karaka-Bombay Ratepayers Association, headed bv Mr. R. Armiger, asked that a more effective method of repairing the Great South Road, between Bombay and Drury, be adopted. The chairman replied that the council was considering the provision of a special grader to keep the repair metal of suitable fineness to the middle of the road until bound in. The engineer, Mr. J. F. McArthur, reported that during the presont season 13j miles of roading had been newly metalled, making a total of 35| miles for tho past two seasons. Since the inception of the county 13 years ago a total of 131 miles 73 chains had been metalled and tho county now hail 277 miles three chains of metalled roads. It was resolved to require certain pro-perty-owners to clear out their portion of tho Wlmngnmaire Creek, Paerata, to provent flooding.
