CAR FALLS OVER CLIFF.

DROP OF ONE HUNDRED FEET. KELBURN VIADUCT ACCIDENTOCCUPANTS' LUCKY ESCAPE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COItRESPONDENT. ] WELLINGTON. Sunday. 'A startling experience befel Mr. and Mrs. G. P. H. Davidson, of Rawhiti Terrace, Kelburn, and their son when returning home from a jnotor drive this afternoon, the closed car in which they were driving rushing through the fence at the approach to the Kelburn viaduct and falling to the bottom of the precipitous hillside, a distance of about 100 ft. Luckily none of the occupants received any injury. Mr. Davidson states he was driving up Glenmore Road on his way home at about a quarter to five. As he turned to go across the Kelburn viaduct he passed another car driven by Mr. Anderson, of Bowen Street, coming off the viaduct. It appeared to Mr. Davidson that he was likely to be hit amidships by the other car, and to avoid a collision he pulled well over to the left side of the roadway. At this point one of his front wheels mounted the kerbing, and Mr. Davidson momentarily lost control of the steering wheel. Before he could recover it the car struck the fence, which collapsed like matchwood and the car was precipitated over the edge. "The whole thing happened in a flash," said Mr. Davidson, "but luckily when I felt the car going, I straightened up the wheels. It was this that saved us, for she ran down the hillside on her wheels and only turned over at the bottom." The injuries received by the party were | relatively slight. Mrs. Davidson had a slight scalp wound, and abrasions on the I knee, and Mr. Davidson and his son ; suffered only minor bruises. Until the car is moved the extent of the damage to it is not ascertainable, but beyond a bent axle and damage to the body and glasswork in the side on which it fell, it does not appear to be great.
