LOSS OF A MOTOR-CAR.
THREE MEN ARRESTED. CRASH IN THE WAIPU GORGE. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Saturday. An unexpected development of the loss of a motor-car in the Waipu Gorge on March 30, when the car fell about 100 ft. into a flooded creek in which it was almost submerged, is the arrest of three men. At the time of the accident it was stated that the car had run backwards off the jacks while a wheel was being changed and that it had crashed to destruction as a result. The car, which was used in the service between Whangarei and Waipu, was owned and insured by Mr. A. S. Bevin, of Whangarei, Mr. F. S. Lough, of Waipu, being a purchaser on terms. Two men wore arrested at Waipn, Lough and ono Forshaw. They were charged with wilfully committing miscnief by damaging a car to the extent of £2BO, the property of Bevin and Co. They were remanded to appear in Whangarei. Last evening Constable Beasley at Whakapara arrested William Hvber, cince a taxi-owner in Whangarei, and he was similarly charged at Whangarei. A remand was granted until Tuesday morning, bail being allowed.
