SEND-OFF TO ROSE.
FUNCTION AT WELLINGTON. AN ENTHUSIASTIC GATHERING. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON'. Friday. A most enthusiastic gathering assembled for the civic send-off to Rose who, accompanied by Mr. Mcllolm as trainer and mentor, will join the Aorangi at Auckland en route to England to meet Nurmi. The Mayor, Mr. C. 15. Norwood, spoko of the splendid progress made by Rose on the track and how proud New Zealand was of its champion. The Prime Minister, Mr. Coates, congratulated Rose and the athletic association on the success achieved in connection with the proposed tour. He wished him success and said the whole people of -New Zealand would follow his progress with great interest. Mr. T. Jordan, Mayor of Masterton. spoke on behalf of the people of that district and Mr. F. Wilton on behalf of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association said -the matter of sending Rose abroad had been left to the public and all knew the splendid response that bad been made. Rose would be running in the English championships at Stamford Bridge on July 3 and hoped then to meet Nurmi. Rose was cheered.. His response was: " I will do my best."
