CRUISER EMERALD.

A LEAK DEVELOPED. DAMAGE NOT ; SERIOUS. I COLOMBO. March 23. The British warship, Emerald, the world's fastest cruiser, which is on her way to join the China Squadron, was placed in dry dock immediately on her arrival here, as she had developed a leak during the voyage from England. The damage to the cruiser is not serious. She carried out her speed trials and gunnery tests at sea, and some of the rivets were loosened. The Emerald, which is 570 ft. in length, and which has a displacement of 7600 tons, was completed in December. She has four screws, and can travel at a speed of 32 knots an hour with a full load. She cost £1,444,53y.
