CANCELLED STRIKE.

SYDNEY COASTAL TRADE. MEN FIND NO EMPLOYMENT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 12.35 a.m.) SYDNEY. March 31. The coastal shipowners announce that although the seamen have declared the strike off tho dispute still exists so far as the owners are concerned. The seamen, they say, only considered themselves in deciding to return to work. The owners demand some guarantee of continuity of service from the men, otherwise matters must stand just as they were before the strike. The owners say they will insist on the formation of a new seamen's union to embrace the volunteer workers who are at present working the ships. This union must have an executive altogether disconnected from the federated union. The decision of the seamen to end the strike constitutes a victory for tho owners. The strikers will have to wait until vacancies occur in crews before they can re-enter tho coastal service. The decision of the men caused surprise in shipping circles, as tho former had emphatically stated at the beginning of the strike that they would not resume duty until the owners had dispensed with the services of the volunteer workers. The seamen have decided to lift the "black" embargo placed on the vessels of the Newcastle and Hunter River Company. It is expected that the waterside workers will also dec.laro the strike off.
