THE PRIMARY SCHOOLS.

ASSOCIATION OF COMMITTEES SUBJECTS FOR DISCUSSION. Among the remits to be considered at the quarterly meeting next week of the Primary Schools' Committees Association is the following in tho name of the Albany School Committee: —"As under present conditions the upper standards of many country schools cannot be conveyed to a high school, and as very many scholars passing out of these isolated schools are anxious to continue their education and, considering the high stage of perfection to which teaching by correspondence has now been brought, the Minister of Education be asked to consider a scheme of teaching by correspondence." , Tlie Cambridge School Committee advances the opinion that the action of the Auckland Education Board in granting only, one week's holiday in May is not in the best interests of the children, and suggests that the board bo requested to extend the holiday to tivn weeks. A further remit is: "That the Education Department's regulation limiting payment for the conveyance of children over 10 years of ago to" those children who residt; threo miles or more from the school, is a great handicap to such pupils, and a tax on parents who must provide other means for their children to travel to and from school. Travelling allowance should he paid for all children who reside two miles or over from the school." The Onehunga District School Committee will move that the association is not in favour of the appointment of married lady teachers unless such teachers arc in need of support. A recommendation from the executive urges the association to strongly recommend to the board that the February holidays l>o fixed so that they are not left to the option of tho committee, but thnt, they be uniform and coincide with the Grammar School holidays.
