RACING SENSATION.
LINCOLNSHIRE HANDICAP. A DISCONCERTING PROTEST. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 8.55 p.m.) LONDON. March 28. The Daily Express says a racing sensation threatened to develop at the weekend in connection with King of Clubs' win in the Lincolnshire Handicap. Mr. Dawson, the trainer of Zionist, which ran second, posted a protest against the winner on the ground that the partnership in the horse between Messrs. Bellerbv and Snowden had not been disclosed. As settling day was on Monday the protest came as a bombshell. It affected bets all the world over totalling £2,000,000. Many bookmakers who had already paid out on King of Clubs would have been obliged to also pay out- on Zionist if the protest had been upheld. Furthermore, the popular double on Zionist and Jack Homer, the winner of the Grand National, would have become operative. However late on Sunday Mr. Dawson cancelled his protest.
