OBITUARY.

SIR HARRY ALLEN. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. March 29. The death is announced of Sir Harry Allen, formerly dean of the faculty of medicine at the Melbourne University, at the age of 72 years. ■ Sir Harry Brookes Allen was born in Geelong in 1854, and was educated at the Flinders School, Geelong, Church of England Grammar School, Melbourne, and the Melbourne University. In 1876 he became demonstrator of anatomy at the university and pathologist at the Melbourne Hospital. Five years later he was professor of anatomy and pathology. Since 1906 he bad been professor of pathology and dean of the faculty of medicine at the Melbourne University. From 1879 to 1883 Sir Harry was editor of the Australian Medical Journal. In 1883, as the result of his researches, he advised the meat preserving companies to revolutionise the construction of freezing chambers. He was keenly interested in matters relating to public health and had written a number of important works. He drafted the deed of union of medical societies of Victoria under the British Medical Association. Sir Harry was president of the Australian and N»w Zealand Medical Congress in 1906. Be was knighted in.-1854.
