FIGHT FOR THE ASHES.

HOBBS STATES HIS VIEWS. AUSTRALIANS NOT SUPREME, Sun. LONDON, March 28. Jack Hobbs writes a lengthy criticism in the Dispatch on the member?) of the Australian cricket team and the prospects of their tour. He says England is strong where Australia is weak, namely, in the quality of her mediumpaced bowlers, who are generally the backbone of a team's bowling. "We are as good cricketers, man for man, in England as they are in Australia," says Hobbs. "Only a determination to win is required to prove this." Hobbs does not complain that the articles written by Australian players are permeated with confidence that they will retain the ashes, but he says he regrets that English writers are manifesting a spirit of carping criticism. The vistors are certainly a formidable side, he says, but they are not the super-cricketers some people - want to make out. . His considered opinion is that English cricket at present is equal to that of Australia.
