DAVIS CUP CONTESTS.

RESULTS OF THE DRAW. HOW COUNTRIES ARE PAIRED. (Received 7.5 p.m.) Renter. WASHINGTON, March 17. Canada's opening game in the Davis Cup contests will be against Cuba. The Secretary of State, Mr. I'. B, Kellogg, drew the first numbers to-day. The dates for the individual matches are to be arranged by agreement between the two countries which will contest in each series.

The pairing for Argentina, which was drawn in the European zone, will be with Hungary. Other European pairings will be:—Spain and Ireland; Britain and Poland; Rumania and Italy; Holland and Belgium; South Africa and Portugal; Sweden and Switzerland; France and Denmark; India and Czecho-Slovakia. Austria drew a bye and will meet the winners of the South Africa v. Portugal match.

In the American zone the Philippines will meet the winner of the Japan v. Mexico match. The drawing arrangements place Rumania, Italy, Holland, Belgium, South Africa and Portugal in the first round, and the others in the second.

The matches -.vill determine which nation shall challenge the United States, the Davis Cup defender, for the final at Philadelphia, in September.
