POLO MATCH FATALITY.

INQUEST AT GISBQRNE. COLLISION OF TWO PONIES. fBV TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] GISBORNE, Thursday. An inquest was opened regarding the death of Mr. John Machell from injuries received in a polo match on February 20. The medical evidence was that death was caused by laceration of the brain due to a kick from a horse. Mervyn Lester Holden, one of the players, gave evidence 'that he was galloping after the ball and suddenly saw Machell coming at an angle from the left side. The ponies collided and when witness looked round he saw deceased on the grqund with his pony on his left leg as if he had come down in the saddle. Deceased was wearing a special polo helmet. The inquest, was adjourned.
