IMMORAL LITERATURE.
EVIL. INFLUENCE ON YOUTH.
CHURCH ENTERS A PROTEST,
The subversive influence of immoral literature upon the youth of the Dominion was a subject which provoked outspoken comment at yesterday's session of the New Zealand Congregational Union. The conference decided "to draw the attention of the Minister to the fact that there is in circulation throughout New Zealand at the present time an enormous amount o? so-called literature of a particularly immoral and suggestive nature. This class of novel, being published in cheap edition form, is readily accessible to the youth of our Dominion." It'was urged Hi at drastic .steps be taken by the Government to have such class of reading banned. , ■ ; •:" Particular reference to the class of novels circulating in Auckland was made bv the Rev. L. B. Fletcher. Theso books, he said, were decidedly ' immoral. Until recently there had also been coming into the Dominion certain journals* of.-a.-sug-gestive nature which had large sales among young people. He understood, however, that the Government had now stopper! the importation of this literature.
