A judgment of importance to local bodies was delivered by Mr. Cruickshank, S.M., in a case in which the Wallace County Council proceeded against" a contractor, Frank Christie,- for £3OO for extraordinary expenses in repairing • the Tq Anau Road, allegedly due' to heaVy traffic by defendant in conveying material for the hotel for this Tourist Department. The 'magistrate said that, as ; a resfult of this 'traffic, 'a fairly' good metalled road had. been .cut to pieces. Contracts had been let for repairs 'totalling £965, sd the defendant had no ground of complaint regarding the amount' claimed. Judgment was given for the council for £3OO 'and costs.
