VESTS RETURN TO FAVOUR
The washable vest or gilet gives an attractive touch to late summer frocks. The new deep V neckline sometimes requires a little inset of lace or lingerie—the selfsame triOe that our grandmothers called a " modesty piece." Moreover, this accessory often gives just the light, soft touch that is needed to relieve the severity of the frock. In modern parlance these little " modesty pieces " are all vests, though you may prefer the French word gilet for the more elaborate sort. Sometimes they extend upward to cover the neck, terminating in high collars, and not infrcqnetly they have cuffs to match. One of the objections that women often raise to wearing washable vests of this sort, is that they so quickly soil To other women, the very fact that they do leads them to wish to wear something washable next their skin. Of course, they owe more than half their charm to being spotlessly clean.
