COUNTESS CATHCART.
PLAY A DISMAL FAILURE.
LONDON CRITICS SEVERE.
LONDON. March 16,
The Daily Mail says:—"The advertisement which Countess Cathcart received recently through her detention on Ellis Island, New York, did not save her play, 'Ashes,' from being a dismal failure at the Prince of Wales Theatre, London. The story is that of a young married society woman who eloped with a 'waster' to South America. It has scarcely a line in it which is not a distant echo of better plays based on a similar theme." The Times extends its sympathy to the actors in the play. It says it cannot guess why the piece was produced.
