OBITUARY.
COLONEL A. BROADFOOT,
A. and N.Z. LONDON. March 16. The death has occurred of Colonel Archibald Broadfoot, aged 83.
The late Colonel Archibald Broadfoot was born in January 1843 and was the second son of the late Mr. Alexander Broadfoot, of Amberley, ISew Zealand. He was educated at the Royal Academy, Woolwich, and entered the Army as a lieutenant of the Royal Artillery in 1864. He was promoted to captain in 1877, and served in the Roval Artillery sequently in the Royal Horse Artillery. He attained the rank of colonel m 1896 and retired in 1898. He served at Bhootan, 1865-6; Abyssinia, J868; Afghanistan. 1878-80; with the Mashonaland Waziri expedition, 1881; and in Upper Burma in 1885-6. MR. FREDERICK WELD. Australian, arid N.Z. Cable* Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 16. The death is announced of Sir. Frederick Weld, second son of the late Sir Frederick Weld. The late Mr. Frederick Weld was a brother of Mr. E. A. Weld, of Flaxbourne, Marlborough. His late father, Sir Frederick Weld, was one of the founders of the Flaxbourne station and the first man to journey overland Trom Tort Cooper to Flaxbourne. Later he was Premier of New Zealand and after that Governor of West Australia and jhe Straits Settlements. Mr. Frederick Weld was in the British Civil Service, and was for manv vears in the Strains Settlements when his father was Governor.
