EDUCATION BOARD.
BIBLE READING AT RUSSELL. ADOPTION OF NELSON SYSTEM. The Auckland Education Board met yesterday, those present being the chairman, Mr. A. Burns, Mrs. Ferner, Messrs. J. D. McKenzte, H. S. W. King, 11. Hoe, S. B. Sims, F. A. Snell, T. D. Wells, G. Brownlce, J. Patterson, J. Boddie and E. C. Banks. A letter was received from the Russell School Committee forwarding a petition from parents asking for the introduction the NeUou system of Bible reading in 'he school, and stating that the.petition indicated a practically unanimous wish on the part of the parents of the district. Authority was grantee! as requested. A memorandum was received from the department in connection with a recent request for a grant tor the purchase oi extra chairs and tables at Kowhai Junior High School statin;! that this cost, £l6O. should b' a charge against the board'* maintei anc. l tmid. A recommendation from the board that the Mount Eden Borough Council .should be subsidised to the fullest possible extent in connection with the road approach to .he new Trailing College formed the subject of a communication from the Education Department. It was stated that the request couid not be granted, as therf were no fundr. available for Hie work. A memorandum \v..s received from the department with further reference to application t'o. a grant for the erection ot a new sch <oj building at Weyni.mtli. The board was requested to urge residents to agrei to the conveyance of pupils to t'ic Ivlanurewa School until the at tendin ce at vVey mouth warranted the erec tion of a two loomed school.
