RADIO LICENSE FEES.
Sir,. —In the Herald of some days ago I noticed further remarks dealing with the question of .the extension of broadcasting licenses for receiving sets. If the new broadcasting stations are going to be such a success, surely the New Zealand Broadcasting Company cannot lose anything by extending the present licenses until tho new stations are in operation. The high standard of broadcasting which will bo in vogue when these stations start will, -we hope, induce a good number of new listeners-in and thus swell tho revenue received from tho annual licenses. This will more than make up for any loss to tho companysustained by extending the pres;ent licenses until the stations are brought info being. By not renewing tho present licenses the company will
gam little or nothing, as the only present license-holders to renew their licenses at the 'end of this month will be those who are technically interested in radio. The remaining license-holders will hang off until tho new stations are operating which will not be for some time yet. The company must learn to give as well as take; we have paid our 303 and have (rot very little for it; while the company has obtained permission for extension of time in which to complete its stations, and at the same time refuses to extend the listeners' license. Is this fair? BCL.
