TITI RAN GI TOURNAMENT. BARTLEET WINS HAGLEY CUP. DEFEAT OF ROBSON IN. FINAL. Perfect weather prevailed for the finals of the Titirangi handicnp tournament during the week-end. The semi-finals of the singles were closely contested. Bartleet beat Sims 3—C, 6—o, 6 —l and Robscn beat Griffith, 6—l, 2—6, 7—5. In the final Bartleet beat Robson, 6—4, 6—3 and takes the Hagley Cup. Bartleet got oS the mark quickly in Ijis match against Sims and led 2—o. Sims then raised the hopes of his supporters by evening at 2 all. Bartleet had a point for a 3 —2 lead but lost and from then on Sims clearly held the upper hand, seeming to gain in accuracy and severity as • the set progressed, Bartleet came right on to his .game in the second set and Sims failed .to retain the form he had shown at first. Bartleet scored six games in a row for the set and went on to lead 4—o in the deciding set. Sims tried (o rally and took the fifth game but it was his only score. Bartleet took the set 6—l. Sims played splendidly in the set he i won but afterwards fell away, probably due to lack of practice. Bartleet struck form in the second and third sets and deserved his win.

Griffiths pushed Eobson all the way and half-way through the deciding set appeared to be in a good position. In the first set Robson mixed his game cleverly, frequently passing Griffiths at the net with good drives. Griffiths did not score until the sth game. Eobson then took the next two for the set at G —l. In the second set Griffith's tenacity began to be rewarded and Eobson abandoning his driving Griffiths ran into an early lead which he maintained and took the set 6—2. In the final set the play was very even to 5 all when Robson managed to break through Griffith's service and led 6—5. Eobson oil his service got to 40—15. Griffiths won the next point, Eobson driving out in trying for a pass down the line. Griffiths rushed the net again but ovited a volley and Robson took the game and match. Tho final between Eobson. and _ Bartleet was closer than the scores 6—4, G —3 indicate and there were many hard driving rallies with occasional advances to the not and crisp volleying by both players. In the first set Eobson had a chance at 2 all when he broke through Bartleet's service and led at 3—2. However, Bartleet returned tho compliment next game and 3 all was called. In the 9th game Eobson lost his service through netting and outing volleys and Bartleet holding his own service next game won the set at G—4. Bartleet ran up a 4—2 lead in the next set. Robson took the next game with fine driving mixed with chops but lost the next game. breaking down on some simple volleys. Bartleet then took his service to love and the set at 6—3. In tjie handicap doubles, Brinsden and Bartleet the back-markers reached the final by beating Eobson and Green, two sets to one and then Ewen and Sturt by the same score. The match against Ewen and Sturt was very closely fought. Ewen was responsible for some effective lobbing and Sturt for all-round Rood piny. The Anal between Bartleet and Brinsden and Hardy and Partridge was in progress, each pair having won a set. UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT. THE PRELIMINARY ROUNDS. RAIN DELAYS COMMENCEMENT.
