NOTES FROM ELLERSLIE.
GOSSIP OF THE TRACKS.
BY ARCHES.
__ The following horses were sent from Ellerslie to Paeroa ye3terday with a view to fulfilling engagements at the Ohinemuri meeting:— Archibald, Charlady. Norma lalmadge. Exact v. Winsome Boy.. Cawnpore, Scot Free. Irifli Jig, Muscari, Prince Abbey, Quinette. Uralla, Killute. Scrang. Polonett, Joy Ride, Chairman, and Mosaic. H is understood that Town Bank is an unlikely. starter in the Ohinemuri Cup. As his 'trainer left Ellerslie yesterday with Scot Free and Town Bank remained at home, his defection seems birhlv probable. Sir Roseberrv was noticed striding out at three-ouarter pace over six furlongs with Archeno yesterday. The crack jumper infused plenty of dash into his work. It may not be wis* to discard Bcrinthia on account of her failure at Te Aroha. She should do better at Paeroa, as she has had time to freshen up. Bluo Sky ran a couple of good races at To Aroha and is likely to be credictd with a win in the near future, for he is steadily on the improve. The p]llerjlie-t rained horses, Arch Arrow and Weka. were taken 011 to Paeroa alter racing- at Matamata and will be on hand to keep their engagements at the Ohinemuri meeting. Arch Arrow won well at his last start and should race prominently. Tho two-year-old Valkon should bo improved bv his racinpr experience at Matamata, where ho made a very creditable showing. It is ouite likely _ that Barometer _ hafl made some nrocress in the past fortnight, for he was not thoroughly ready at Te Aroha. His chance in the Ohinemuri Clin would be improved if rain were to fall beforo the day. Eli Timi ran well enough at Te Aroha to suggest that he may win soon. The big grey is likely to do best in the hands of a stron<r horseman. as he is rather difficult to control. Speedy beginners usually do well at Paeroa. and for that reason King I ot and Finclli may bo in demand for sprint events. King Pot was narrowly beaten at /© Aroha and should tako a deal of beating in his engagements. Chairman has been placed in three of his last four starts and may soon break his sequence of defeat"- He is a speedy beginner. with a good burst of speed ana has previously won at Paeroa. Llewellvn is among the regular workers at Ellerslie and is making steady progress. All going well, th- big fehow should oe in good trim when the jumping season is at hand. THE OHINEMURI MEETING.
