MAIN TRUNK DELAYS.

DERAILMENT OF TRUCKS. ACCIDENT NEAR HUNTERVILLE. SOUTH-BOUND TRAINS LATE. [lit TELEGRAPH. — OWN WELLINGTON, Monday. The derailment of seven trucks of a goods train near Kaikarangi station two miles north of Hunterville this morning did considerable damage to the permanent way and seriously disorganised the time-table.

The limited express from Auckland arrived at Wellington at 4.10 p.m. to-day instead of at 9.30 a.m. and the ordinary Auckland express at 5.30 p.m. instead of at 12.30 p.m. It took over six hours to clear the line and in the meantime the limited was held. As' the passengers left Auckland at 7.10 p.m. on Sunday they were naturally anxious about the delay.

The residents in the vicinity of the accident earned the gratitude of the passengers by providing them with tea and bread and butter. There was a large number of passengers on board. 1 The derailed trucks, which were portion of a train, which leaves Taihape for Marton at 2.30 a.m., were dragged for. a distance of 27 chains before the train came to a stop. Four of the trucks were quite clear of the line, but the other three blocked the way for other trains. It was at first hoped that the line could be cleared by about nine o'clock, but this was not possible, and it was not till eleven o'clock that traffic could be resumed. By that time the damage was repaired sufficiently to enable trains to run at reduced speed. All of the waggon's except two were badly damaged, and had to be removed to the side of the, track. •

As a result of the accident near Hunterville, the daylight limited from Wellington was delayed and reached Auckland shortly after 11.30 o'clock last night, half-an-hour late.
