The Daily Mail states that Lord Rothermere has purchased for £155,000 the 14 acres comprising the former site of the famous Bethlehem mental hospital. This in to be converted into a permanent playground and park in the heart of the Southwark slums, as a memorial to Lord Rothermere's mother.

The hospital was removed to Paddington in 1924,
