FATALITY IN TUNNEL.
ELECTROCUTION AT ARAPUNI. EXTRA PRECAUTIONS ADVISED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUTARURU, Saturday. The inquest concerning the death of Kawhena Mutu, who was electrocuted in the Arapuni diversion tunnel, was held at Arapuni yesterday before Mr. J. W. Barr Brown, and a jury of four. Work has been suspended, in the section of the tunnel where the fatality occurred since Wednesday, pending the result of the inquiry. Jho evidence of the 'mates of deceased and of the foreman electrician was taken at length, the proceedings lasting all day. After a deliberation of considerably over an hour and an inspection of the tunnel, the jury returned a verdict that the deceased met his death through coming into contact with -an electric wire made live through an accidental breakage. The jury added a rider that in view of the fact that some of the workmen had not been advised of the danger in regard to live wires it was of opinion that warning notices should be posted in addition to oral cautions; also _that thorough' periodical examination "should be made of the electric installation in the tunnel, as it was felt that more adequate precautions could be taken to safeguard the lives of the men.
