[BY TELTIGRAFJI. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. H. Gillett is keeping Count Cavour and Glentruin on the move, but without setting them any serious tasks in the meantime. They are both in good health and can soon be ready to show good form again. Count Cavour still is a possibility for a trip to Sydney for Easter racing, but Glentruin is practically certain to remain at home.

Following on the Canterbury Jockey Club's Summer Meeting, the Riccarton trainers have given some of their charges a short rest, and as a result there has not been much excitement on the tracks during the past week. The Banks Peninsula meeting will engage a little attention next Saturday, but things wlil begin to liven up shortly as the Easter meeting is rapidly approaching.

The Riccarton apprentice, C-. Eastwood, had a fall on the first day of the Marlborough races, and is now in hospital suffering from two broken collarbones, also injuries to his face and head. Sir Charles Campbell's two steeplechasers, Tigerland and Whipcord, have arrived at Riccarton, and have gone into F, _ P. Claridge's stables to be prepared for winter racing. En Route, who carries the same colours, will remain with R. Longley, u;ho has done well with the Advance gelding since he has , been at Riccarton.

F. P. Claridge has G-ay Queen and Kilris in commission again, and they should bs in good form for late autumn meetings.

The imported mare Celerity 11. was unable to race last Saturday owing to a slight mishap. T. H. -Gillett has decided to spell her, and as the season is well advanced now it is probable she will not be raced again until the ispring. This .policy Of patience should be well rewarded. The trouble which necessitated a spell for Paper Rose has been located in the knee. She has been blistered and will have a good rest.

F. Christmas expects to have Jubilant in work again next month following on a spell of two months, and he will then get her ready for races late in the season. The three-year-old gelding Gay Bird (by Gay Lad from Sporting Lady) is to bo spelled for a few months. So far he has not been a success as a racing proposition.

Assurance continues to do good track work, but "tie does not reproduce it in his races.

R. Ellis has recommissioned Finora, who •looks in good health, and she may be. among the winners again during the autumn.

Centrepiece has resumed work with Cutts Bros.' team. He hos made a good recovery from the trouble that made a spell necessary nearly two months ago, _ and an attempt will be made to get him ready for late autumn engagements. R'. Longley has 'put Ophir and Bonomel into work again with a view to winter racing.

Malaga has been sold to a patron of F. Shaw's stable, and he has been sent to Wingatui, where he will be trained in future.

J. B. Pearson has His Majesty and Naughty Peter engaged in the hurdle races at the Oamaru meeting. His Majesty shapes well for a novice at the jumping game, and he may develop into a better performer in that department than he has been on the flat! / J. J. Sbanahan is still at Ricoarton with Goosestep, who may do a few more meetings before he . returns to the West Coast. He is booked to compete at Motukararu next week, while he may also be raced at Waimate and Oamaru.

J. McCombe has Fprgery and Power doing useful work, and they may carry his colours at the Oamaru meeting next month. Later in tha season they may be taken to Sydney. Power is a two-year-old by Tractor, his dam being a half-sister to Sunny Loch. Tarleton ran a good race in the Midsummer Handicap, and a win may soon come his way. It iB worth recalling that each season he has raced the big son of Nassau has shown his best form in the autumn, so he 'should be worth keeping in mind for events ahead. Carnot looks none the worse for his recent racing, and he may add to his winning record before long. He will make his first appearance in open company in the Peninsula Cup, and interest attaches to his form as it will giv<i a line to his prospects in more important events. Murihaupo looks all the better for his race in the Craven Plate, and he may soon be among the winners again. Charlatan is coming on nicely in his preparation. He is to have a race on the flat at Motukarara next Saturday, and he looks as if he would be in good order for early steeplechase engagements. Sightseer, who figures among_ the acceptors for the Motukarara Handicap at the B°nks Peninsula, meeting, is a two-year-old brother to Retrospect (by Autunmus from Telescope). So far his track efforts have been of A moderate description, but he may improve -with racing. "Deucalion is a regular attendant at the Riccarton tracks. His tasks have not been of a serious description and apparently he is not to be hurried.
