SPORTSMEN AT CHURCH.
ENGLISH COUNTRY SERVICE. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Jan. 25. The famous cricketer, Jack Hobbs, replying to an invitation to read the lessons at a sportsmen's service in St. Mark's Church, Mitcbam, said: " I would rather face Australian bowling for three weeks than read a lesson in church." Instead of becoming a lay reader Hobbs took up the and Knight, the Surrey cricketer, read the lessons. The llev. Roberts, a popular Rugby referee, conducted the service, and the Bishop of Woolwich was the preacher.
