ECONOMIES ESSENTIAL.
BRITISH PEOPLE WARNED. HIGHER TAXES OTHERWISE. (Received 1.5 a.m.) Router. LONDON. Jan. 23. The Prime Minister, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, delivered a speech at a dinner given by the Unionist Association in London. He said that, unless great economies were secured, an increase in taxation this vear or next would be inevitable, whatever Government might be in power. M.r. Baldwin said he thankfully noted the hopeful signs of an improvement in trade. Economies must bo made which would involve sacrifices, not only in luxuries, but in things almost in the categf :y of necessities. The eyes of their opponents were fixed more on spending than on saving, and the Government would need the stoutest support of all its friends on both sides.
