CROSSWORD ADVERTISING.
NOT A GAME OF CHANCE.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBORNE. Tuesday.
I hat the solving of a crossword puzzle entails a certain degree of skill and ability, and that a competition advertised in the Poverty Bay Herald in connection with such a puzzle was therefore not illegal, was the judgment given by -Mr. Levvy, S.M., to-dav in a casein which the police proceeded against the Herald Company on a charge of publishing an advertisement which made it appear that certain premises in Gisborne were used for the purposes of taking part in a scheme of which prizes were gained by .chance. " I find," said the magistrate, "that in order to solve the puzzle correctly, a certain degree of skill or ability would be necessary, although that degree of skill would be of a very slight character. There is therefore no offence proved."
